Lymphedema Therapy

Lymphedema is an accumulation of protein rich fluids which accrue when lymph nodes are missing, damaged or removed. Primary lymphedema can occur at any time from birth to maturity. It may be hereditary or can occur from unknown causes. Secondary lymphedema may develop as a result of surgery, trauma, blood clots, radiation or infection.

Shore Memorial Hospital provides therapy for patients with Lymphedema on an outpatient basis. Specially trained physical therapists employ the traditional components of the Vodder Method of complete decongestive therapy (CDT) to improve lymphatic flow and eliminate excess fluid.
