Dr. Jungblut joined the Hospital in March, 2003. Upon his arrival to Shore Memorial, Dr. Jungblut oversaw completion of the CardioVascular Institute and the freestanding Cancer Center, and was instrumental in bringing technological advancements to the Pharmacy, including robotic medication retrieval and laying the groundwork for bar-code medication administration.
He also established the Center for Sleep Medicine, the Palliative Care and Hospice programs, and re-introduced the inpatient Hospitalist program.
For the past few years, Dr. Jungblut has driven significant improvements in Quality and Patient Safety, as measured by outside agencies and external benchmarks, while continuing to lower length-of-stay and improve resource utilization.
Prior to joining the Hospital, he was Medical Director at Saint Peter’s University Hospital where he was responsible for utilization and care management, social services, medical staff services and physician relations. Dr. Jungblut earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance at New York University and traded government securities for Chemical Bank before deciding to pursue a career in medicine. He graduated from Weill-Cornell Medical College where he earned a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) in 1994. Upon completion of his Internal Medicine residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago from 1994 to 1997, he joined the Group Health Cooperative in Seattle, an integrated healthcare delivery system providing care to nearly 600,000 members in the Pacific Northwest.
In 1998, Dr. Jungblut was appointed Chief of Hospitalist Services for the Central District. In that capacity, he led a group of 10 hospitalists at Virginia Mason Medical Center, served on numerous hospital committees, and was actively involved in residency and medical student education.
During that same time, Dr. Jungblut earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington. He remained with Group Health until 2001.
Dr. Jungblut is a member of the American College of Physician Executives and the Society of Hospital Medicine, a contributing member of the Stainton Society, and currently serves as Board President for the Alcove Center.
